Hiawatha hasn't had much luck against Sabetha recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Claire Twombly was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sabetha). Everything went their way against Rossville on Thursday as they made off with a 20-10 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Bluejays as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Chloe Detweiler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Halley Mitchell was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Kiera Keim was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Sabetha kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Sabetha's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Hiawatha, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Sabetha's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hiawatha has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Sabetha, though, as they've been averaging 10.7 hits. Given Hiawatha's sizable advantage in that area, the Bluejays will need to find a way to close that gap.
