After flying high against Omaha Central last Tuesday, Marian came back down to earth. The Marian Crusaders took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Crusaders of the 2-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2022.
Marian actually scored more points across those four sets (92-90), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 14-25, 26-24, 25-22.
Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Melody Mayer, who had 25 digs. Mayer is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Janke, who had eight digs and five aces.
Lincoln Southwest can attribute much of their success to Grace Lienemann, who had seven digs and two aces.
Marian's defeat dropped their record down to 25-13. As for Lincoln Southwest, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season.
As of now, neither Marian nor Lincoln Southwest have any future games scheduled.
