Mount Airy is on a 16-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Eastern Randolph is on a ten-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Mount Airy Granite Bears will take on the Eastern Randolph Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mount Airy had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They claimed a resounding 64-26 victory over Murphy at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Mount Airy just coasted through the last quarter.
Tyler Mason was his usual excellent self, rushing for 262 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries. Mason is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Taeshon Martin, who rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Eastern Randolph's offense rose to the challenge against a Bulldogs defense that boasted an average of only 13.54 points allowed. Eastern Randolph blew past Thomasville 40-19.
It was another big night for Carter Revelle, who threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
Their wins bumped Mount Airy to 13-0 and Murphy to 9-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Mount Airy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 378.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Eastern Randolph, though, as they've been averaging only 59.2 per game. How will Eastern Randolph fare against such a dominant running game?
Mount Airy strolled past Eastern Randolph in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 by a score of 35-17. Does Mount Airy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Eastern Randolph turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
