Mia Volpert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maya Bennett, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, North Mac came up short against Litchfield on Monday and fell 7-2.
Kyana Thiebaud made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.
Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for North Mac, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-17-1.
North Mac's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Springfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for North Mac, though, as they've been averaging only 3.3 strikeouts. Will Springfield keep running through batters, or will the Panthers buck the trend?
Everything went Springfield's way against North Mac in their previous meeting back in April of 2021, as Springfield made off with a 9-1 win. Do the Senators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
