South Lakes has gone 7-2 against Westfield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Seahawks will look to defend their home field against the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. South Lakes is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for South Lakes' offense. They came up short against James Madison on Tuesday, falling 10-0. The Seahawks just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
South Lakes saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Ponce, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Westfield got the win against Chantilly on Tuesday by a conclusive 9-2. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Chargers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Morgan Mills spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit.
On the hitting side, Lizzy Laurelli was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Schmid, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Westfield now has a winning record of 5-4. As for South Lakes, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-4.
Westfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. South Lakes has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Westfield, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will South Lakes keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
Everything went South Lakes' way against Westfield when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as South Lakes made off with a 10-1 win. Do the Seahawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
