Muncie Burris hasn't had much luck against University recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Owls will challenge the Trailblazers at 5:30 p.m. Muncie Burris will be strutting in after a win while University will be coming in after a loss.
While Muncie Burris' victory against Seton Catholic wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Owls won by a run and slipped past the Cardinals 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Owls have posted since May 1, 2024.
Beau Edmonds spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Parker Evans was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. John Hershberger also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Muncie Burris was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seton Catholic only posted a batting average of .148.
Meanwhile, University was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Harrison.
University saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Castetter, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Another was Beckett Suh, who scored a run and stole a base.
Muncie Burris' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for University, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
University's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Muncie Burris has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for University, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Muncie Burris keep running through batters, or will the Trailblazers buck the trend?
Muncie Burris might still be hurting after the 24-2 defeat they got from University when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Owls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
