The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos were the 46-38 winner over the Decatur Community Red Devils when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Wauneta-Palisade fell 31-22 to Decatur Community on Tuesday. Wauneta-Palisade has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Wauneta-Palisade lost, one person who can't be blamed is Peyton Cox. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Cox scored a full 59.1% of Wauneta-Palisade's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Wauneta-Palisade were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Decatur Community only pulled down 17.
Decatur Community found their leader in underclassman Brylee Minnick, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Minnick has scored at least 25% of Decatur Community's points. Jenna Fortin was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Wauneta-Palisade now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Decatur Community, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Wauneta-Palisade will be home for the holidays to greet South Platte on December 15th. Decatur Community's road trip will continue as they head out to face Southwest. Hopefully Southwest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
