Basketball Recap: Abhay Grewal's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Independence over Tuscarora

Independence lost against Tuscarora back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Independence lost to the Tuscarora Huskies at home by a 58-42 margin. While losing is never fun, Independence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 311th, while Tuscarora is ranked 125th).

Independence's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abhay Grewal, who posted seven points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Grewal a new career-high in assists (three). Jordan Ratliff was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Independence and nudges their season record down to 2-9. As for Tuscarora, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.

When Independence and Tuscarora next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Independence will try to stop Potomac Falls' three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Independence is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season. Similarly, Tuscarora will try to stop Heritage's seven-game winning streak when the meet at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
