The Martin County Tigers can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 60-29 win over Morningside Academy. Martin County's victory was all the more impressive since the Eagles were averaging only 28.1 points allowed on the season.
Martin County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Becca Witt led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Cameron Slate was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Morningside Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Giuliana Bonasera and Emmilina Miller. Bonasera dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Miller scored nine points. Bonasera has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 17 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Wallace, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
The win was the third in a row for Martin County, bringing their record for this year to 14-7. As for Morningside Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-5.
Martin County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on January 31st. Westwood is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Morningside Academy, they will square off against the Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
