Washington is 0-8 against Sullivan since May of 2015 but things could change on Saturday. The Hatchets will head out on the road to challenge the Golden Arrows at 11:00 a.m.
Washington is headed into Saturday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 13th straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Southridge.
Washington saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Priesley Armes, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Armes has hit this season. Kyra Schuckman was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Sullivan gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out Terre Haute South Vigo 7-6. The Golden Arrows haven't had any issues with the Braves recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Mylee Vandevender spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaylynn Hobbs, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Eslinger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Sullivan's victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Washington, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
Washington might still be hurting after the 18-1 defeat they got from Sullivan in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Hatchets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
