Baseball Recap: Hazard Sets Scoring Season-High Against Buckhorn

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hazard). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Buckhorn Wildcats an 18-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Cayden Williams looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Hazard let Gaige Logan and Trace Kincaid run wild. Logan went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Kincaid scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Logan a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tucker Napier, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Hazard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buckhorn only posted an OBP of .083.

Hazard's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Buckhorn, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hazard will welcome Lee County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Buckhorn, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Owsley County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Owls / Lady Owls at the right time seeing as the Owls / Lady Owls are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
