Avella hasn't had much luck against Carmichaels recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Eagles will head out to square off against the Mighty Mikes at 4:15 p.m.
Avella is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of Mapletown by a score of 9-8 on Tuesday.
Emma Day and Sara Decker did some serious damage despite the final result: Day went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Decker went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those runs marked the first that Day has scored this season. Ginny Smith was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Carmichaels' found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Jefferson-Morgan on Monday. The Mighty Mikes' pitcher stepped up to hand Mapletown a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Mighty Mikes have won six games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Bailey Barnyak made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Carmichaels let Lily Sisler and Ke'Lani Chun run wild. Sisler went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and four RBI, while Chun went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Sisler a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Plavi, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.
Carmichaels was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Carmichaels has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Avella, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
Avella might still be hurting after the 17-0 loss they got from Carmichaels in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
