Evans hasn't had much luck against Wekiva recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Evans Trojans will challenge the Wekiva Mustangs. Evans has given up an average of 14.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Evans is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Wednesday. They lost 24-12 to Windermere Prep. Even if the Trojans couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Cj Daniels and Kailand Walker stepped up to the plate in a big way. Daniels scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3, while Walker scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Deion Holmes was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, Wekiva brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They were the clear victor by a 23-1 margin over Jones on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Emil Flaquer was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent over his last six contests. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Wekiva's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-9 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Brady Reinert was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing Six bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Charles Neal, who scored three runs while going 1-for-2.
Wekiva was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jones only posted a batting average of .125.
Evans' defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Wekiva, their record is now 3-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Evans has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wekiva struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Evans might still be hurting after the 15-9 loss they got from Wekiva in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Evans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
