Godwin is a perfect 10-0 against Hermitage since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will square off against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Godwin's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Hermitage's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Saturday, Godwin earned a 6-2 win over Benedictine. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
The team relied heavily on Matthew Hartsfield, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Alex Boyd was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Hermitage made sure to put some runs up on the board against Henrico on Wednesday. The Panthers blew past the Warriors 15-2. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won seven in a row.
Hayden Harris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
In other batting news, Nathan Legano was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hermitage's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Jackson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Godwin's record now sits at 12-2. As for Hermitage, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Godwin has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hermitage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Godwin's way against Hermitage when the teams last played back in March, as Godwin made off with an 11-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
