The Louisburg Warriors will head out to take on the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Louisburg has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight defeats, while Southern School of Energy and Sustainability will come in with five straight victories.
On Friday, Louisburg came up short against South Granville and fell 6-2.
Meanwhile, Southern School of Energy and Sustainability hadn't done well against J.F. Webb recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 15-3 win.
Ryan Dawes was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 4-7 otherwise. Dawes was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Ethan Hargrove was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Southern School of Energy and Sustainability is undefeated when Hargrove posts two or more runs, but 3-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carlos Joseph, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Southern School of Energy and Sustainability was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Southern School of Energy and Sustainability's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Louisburg, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Louisburg was able to grind out a solid victory over Southern School of Energy and Sustainability in their previous meeting back in March, winning 9-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
