The Turner Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Brodhead Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Turner comes in on eight and Brodhead on six.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Turner and Big Foot meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Trojans had just enough and edged out the Chiefs 5-3.

Olyvia Piranio
04/29/25 @ Big Foot | 9 |
04/26/25 @ Waupun | 5 |
04/24/25 vs Edgerton | 12 |
Olyvia Piranio was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
Piranio wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emma Bue, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Turner hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Brodhead won against Dodgeville on Monday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Cardinals blew past Evansville 6-0. Considering the Cardinals have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Turner, Brodhead also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Risum. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Risum was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, Leah Rear was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Karli Krumwiede, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Brodhead pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Turner, their record now sits at 10-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Turner has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Brodhead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Turner skirted past Brodhead 3-2 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
