The Foothill Mustangs will square off against the Fairfield Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Foothill barely beat Valley Christian the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 34-22 margin over the Lions last Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Meanwhile, Fairfield hadn't done well against Bethel recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Falcons blew past the Jaguars 18-1. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Karli Robinson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs.
In other batting news, Claudia Lucero was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mariah Giron, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases.
Fairfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .594. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Fairfield's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Foothill, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Foothill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .553. However, it's not like Fairfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .505. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Foothill might still be hurting after the 15-3 defeat they got from Fairfield when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
