Philip is 0-10 against White River since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The pair will face off at 8:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Philip ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 63-54 victory over Jones County. The win made it back-to-back wins for Philip.
Meanwhile, White River had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.7 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 64-40 margin over Kadoka. Given White River's advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Kadoka is ranked 120th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Philip's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for White River, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
Philip came up short against White River in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 76-68. Can Philip avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
