On Thursday, Westminster Academy strolled past American Heritage with points to spare, taking the game 67-48. Given Westminster Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while American Heritage is ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westminster Academy found their leader in underclassman Alex Constanza, who shot 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a triple-double on 29 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Constanza has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Dwayne Wimbley jr., who scored 12 points along with six assists.
Despite the loss, American Heritage saw an underclassman step up: Brendan Gerard scored 20 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Burrow, who scored nine points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Westminster Academy and bumps their season record up to 10-4. As for American Heritage, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-4 record this season.
Westminster Academy will square off against Richmond Heights at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for American Heritage, they will head out on the road to challenge Jupiter at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jupiter is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
