Basketball Recap: St. Paul Comes Up Short

After a string of three wins, St. Paul's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They came up short against the Loomis Wolves, falling 58-37. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wildcats came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Wolves are ranked 208th).

Loomis found their leader in sophomore Jace Schukar, who went 10 for 16 on his way to 23 points. The dominant performance gave Schukar a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Essex, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

St. Paul's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Loomis, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the St. Paul Wildcats take on the Boone Central Cardinals at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Loomis, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Elm Creek at 7:30 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
