Port Gibson hasn't had much luck against Magee recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Blue Waves will head out to face off against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Port Gibson has four straight victories, Magee has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Port Gibson and Hazlehurst, and Port Gibson kept the tradition alive. The Blue Waves blew past the Indians 15-1 on Saturday. Considering the Blue Waves have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Jomarion Washington and Michael Evans were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Washington tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Evans struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Port Gibson is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 7-10 otherwise. At the plate, Washington scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Evans scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Evans has been hot recently, having posted three or more stolen bases the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, KeJaiveyin Watson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braylin Carter, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Port Gibson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .421 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Magee came up short against North Forrest on Saturday, falling 12-5.
Carson Harper was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and two runs.
The win got Port Gibson back to even at 10-10. As for Magee, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-9.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Port Gibson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .515. However, it's not like Magee struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Port Gibson might still be hurting after the 17-2 loss they got from Magee in their previous matchup back in April of 2015. Can the Blue Waves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
