The Reedley Pirates will square off against the Hanford West Huskies at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Reedley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Reedley came up short against Kerman and fell 9-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost three in a row.
Jocelyn Fonseca was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamilah Taylor, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hanford West came into Tuesday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over Sierra Pacific on Tuesday.
Kayhlen Boring was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Hanford West let Keira Nunes and Kennidy Perryman run wild. Nunes went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Perryman went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Adyson Owens was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Hanford West pushed their record up to 14-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Reedley, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Reedley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Hanford West struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Reedley might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Hanford West in their previous meeting on April 1st. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
