Charles O. Dickerson is a perfect 3-0 against Spencer-Van Etten since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Blue Raiders will host the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Wednesday.
Charles O. Dickerson will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Thursday, then bounced right back against Watkins Glen on Monday. The Blue Raiders blew past the Lake Hawks 17-1. The result was nothing new for the Blue Raiders, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Owen Fulton made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Fulton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Connor Sherwood was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Ozzy Vogel-Moore was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, Spencer-Van Etten strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Dryden a 10-0 shutout. Ten seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Cameron Sinn and Logan Aman did most of the damage at the plate: Sinn went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple, while Aman got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. With that strong performance, Aman is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was James Chrysler, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Spencer-Van Etten was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Spencer-Van Etten pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Charles O. Dickerson, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Charles O. Dickerson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .531. However, it's not like Spencer-Van Etten struggles in that department as they've averaged .500. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Charles O. Dickerson beat Spencer-Van Etten 5-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2018. Do the Blue Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
