Effingham is 5-0 against Greenville since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Effingham Flaming Hearts on the road again and play against the Greenville Comets at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Effingham put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Salem as Effingham made off with a 61-39 win. Given Effingham's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Salem is ranked 255th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Greenville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They managed a 47-43 victory over Centralia. The win was nothing new for Greenville as they're now sitting on three straight.
Greenville had a senior duo take command as Shayna Henderson scored nine points along with nine rebounds and three steals and Katie Campbell scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. Henderson hasn't dropped below two steals for 13 straight games. Emma Veith was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six steals.
Effingham has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. As for Greenville, their win bumped their record up to 14-6.
Effingham strolled past Greenville in their previous matchup back in January of 2022 by a score of 38-24. Will Effingham repeat their success, or does Greenville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
