Softball Recap: Wheatland Wins Going Away Against Bear River

Wheatland won the last time they faced Bear River and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Bruins. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

Chasidy Sills was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Raelynn Hulsey was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Ella Woolery was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Wheatland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Wheatland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Bear River, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-4.

Wheatland wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 20-0 victory against Lincoln on the 3rd. As for Bear River, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-2 win against Colfax on the 3rd.
