Basketball Recap: Northeast Takes a Loss

Northeast was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 78-51 loss at the hands of the Westminster Academy Lions. While losing is never fun, the Hurricanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 368th, while the Lions are ranked 51st).

Northeast's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dean Vital, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Vital also racked up four blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Jonathan Senior was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Northeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westminster Academy only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Westminster Academy was led to victory by Alex Constanza and Alexander Lloyd. Constanza dropped a double-double on 33 points and 14 rebounds, while Lloyd went 9 of 16 on his way to 26 points. Constanza's evening made it 15 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brandon Sharpe, who posted six points.

Northeast's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Westminster Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Northeast didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-26 loss against Boyd Anderson on the 21st. As for Westminster Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-61 defeat against Gibbs on the 18th.
