West Seattle will face off against the Garfield Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for West Seattle: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Garfield has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
West Seattle came up short against Holy Names Academy on Friday, falling 12-3.
Molly Lefkowitz was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Garfield). Everything went their way against Mercer Island on Monday as they made off with a 23-1 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by 11 runs or more this season.
Sammy Breckenridge made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Sula Yogi-Adams was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Mae Valenta was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Garfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 15 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Garfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. As for West Seattle, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
West Seattle might still be hurting after the 15-7 defeat they got from Garfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will West Seattle have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
