The Laurens Academy Crusaders came tearing into Friday's match with 20 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 47-41 W over Cambridge Academy. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Laurens Academy also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Cambridge Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Izzy Southerland, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds and two steals. Southerland has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jillian Mapes, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
Laurens Academy pushed their record up to 21-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Cambridge Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.
