Piketon is 1-9 against Unioto since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Redstreaks will host the Shermans at 5:15 p.m. Piketon will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Unioto's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Piketon hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Redstreaks didn't even let Zane Trace on the board on Wednesday, marking the Redstreaks' second-straight 10-0 shutout. Considering the Redstreaks have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Kyndall Carroll's shutout, as she gave up just a hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Piketon got a massive performance out of Addy Blakeman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Jaylin Forbes was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Unioto, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Paint Valley with a sharp 14-4 victory on Friday.
Kendal Walker tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Unioto let Maddie Tuttle and Macie Cox run wild. Tuttle went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Cox went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those three runs gave Tuttle a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kinzli Batson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Unioto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Unioto pushed their record up to 9-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Piketon, their win bumped their record up to 13-1.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Piketon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Unioto struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Piketon came out on top in a nail-biter against Unioto in their previous matchup on April 9th, sneaking past 9-8. Do the Redstreaks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Shermans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
