Brookewood had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 17-2 walloping at the hands of the Fairfax HomeSchool Hawks on Tuesday.
For Fairfax HomeSchool's part, Maddie Gilbert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Gilbert has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive pitching appearances. Gilbert was even better at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run, six RBI, and three runs.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Cannon-Browneyes was incredible, going 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and a triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Hamilton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
The win made it two in a row for Fairfax HomeSchool and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Brookewood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fairfax HomeSchool, they will head out on the road to square off against Seton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
