Basketball Game Preview: Mountain Vista Golden Eagles vs. Douglas County Huskies

Mountain Vista has gone 10-0 against Douglas County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Douglas County Huskies at 7:00 p.m. Mountain Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 72.1 points per game this season.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Mountain Vista challenged Highlands Ranch on Tuesday. Mountain Vista took a 67-52 bruising from Highlands Ranch. The Golden Eagles' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Kennedy Spellman, who posted 15 points and five rebounds. The contest was her 12th in a row with at least ten points. Kiarra Spellman was another key player, putting up 16 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Mountain Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Douglas County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 63-37 to Chaparral. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Wolverines are ranked 50th).

Douglas County's record now sits at 3-12. As for Mountain Vista, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 11-5.

Everything came up roses for Mountain Vista against Douglas County when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 67-32 win. Will Mountain Vista repeat their success, or does Douglas County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
