Byers was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in 1A Region 1. Earlier in the week, the Lions triumphed over Tupelo Christian Prep 46-6.
Biggersville's dynamic duo of Blake Stacy and Bradley Davis proved tough for Falkner to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Stacy threw for 268 yards and five touchdowns and Davis had 139 yards receiving. Darion Barnett helped Biggersville's passing attack out by catching five balls for 105 yards.
Jeramie Lawrence was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 433 yards on 27 carries as the Eagles fell to the Eagles. Teammate Jase Stroupe added to the ground attack by rushing for 156 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Stacy of Biggersville is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1038. He has also thrown 17 touchdowns. On the ground, Falkner's Lawrence has rushed for 1210 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is James Avant. The Vardaman star has 15 catches for 344 yards.
A big matchup in 1A Region 1 this week will be when Vardaman takes on Coldwater. As it stands, the Rams are in fifth, while the Cougars are in fourth.
Smithville made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,113 from 9,633. The advance stemmed from a 47-30 victory over Coldwater last week.
