LAYNE DAVIDSON and LANE TINSLEY were huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, DAVIDSON struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, TINSLEY tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, DAVIDSON didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. At the plate, DAVIDSON scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while TINSLEY scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. TINSLEY has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times he's played.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was LAWSON McCULLOUGH, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Altus waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Comets get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Like Big Pasture, Altus also got a great game from a two-way player: Griffin Marshall. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Marshall was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Tate Saxon was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Donovan Naff was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
Altus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .880. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Big Pasture has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. Altus' record is now 8-3.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Big Pasture hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Altus struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Big Pasture might still be hurting after the 20-2 loss they got from Altus in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Big Pasture avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
