Softball Recap: Oxford Prep's Undefeated Season over After Eight Games

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Oxford Prep and Falls Lake meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Griffins fell just short of the Firebirds by a score of 7-5. The loss was the Griffins' first of the season.

Addyson Faucette spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hailey Woodlief was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. Mileena Webb also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Oxford Prep fell to 7-1. As for Falls Lake, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-8 record.

Oxford Prep and Falls Lake will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Griffins are set to face off against their familiar foe Roxboro Community at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Falls Lake will square off against rival Wake Prep Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
