Phoenix Christian put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by a 9-3 margin over the Tonopah Valley Phoenix. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Phoenix, too.
Karly Van Metre was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Kyla Carpio was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Four bases. while going 1-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Kassandra Saravia also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Phoenix Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tonopah Valley only posted an OBP of .391.
Phoenix Christian's record is now 5-0. As for Tonopah Valley, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Coincidentally, Phoenix Christian and Tonopah Valley will both be playing Dysart the next time they take the field. Phoenix Christian will head out to face Dysart at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Tonopah Valley will head out to face them at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
