Port Allen hasn't had much luck against University Lab recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Port Allen Pelicans will challenge the University Lab Cubs at 4:00 p.m. Port Allen has given up an average of 12.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Port Allen's offense. They lost 22-0 to Parkview Baptist on Tuesday. The Pelicans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for University Lab, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past Madison Prep Academy 12-1 on Tuesday. Considering the Cubs have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Gabby Fontenot was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Fontenot was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on London Harvey, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Lowe, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
University Lab was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in three consecutive games.
University Lab now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Port Allen, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Port Allen has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like University Lab struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Port Allen suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to University Lab in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Port Allen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
