Marcellus is 0-3 against Christian Brothers Academy since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Marcellus Mustangs will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Christian Brothers Academy Brothers at 8:15 p.m. Marcellus is looking to tack on another W to their ten-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Marcellus has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 20 points or more this season. They put the hurt on General Brown with a sharp 61-41 victory on Wednesday. Given Marcellus' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while General Brown is ranked 607th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marcellus found their leader in underclassman Tucker Burnett, who scored 15 points. The game was Burnett's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Burnett, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Brothers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Brothers 53-50. The win was just what the Brothers needed coming off of a 67-42 loss in their prior match.
Marcellus' win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for the Brothers, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
Marcellus suffered a grim 70-45 defeat to Christian Brothers Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2021. Can Marcellus avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
