After a string of three wins, the Kofa Kings's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a serious blow against Willow Canyon, falling 79-41. While losing is never fun, Kofa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while Willow Canyon is ranked 29th).
Kofa's loss came despite strong showings from Jayven Wynn and Calvin Barber. Wynn scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds, while Barber scored 10 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. The matchup was Barber's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Negrete, who scored 7 points.
Kofa bumped their record down to 3-1 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Willow Canyon, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Kofa has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Yuma at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Yuma focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday. Willow Canyon's road trip will continue as they head out to face Lake Havasu at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th.
