The West Grand Mustangs had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They managed a 41-36 victory over De Beque. That's another feather in the cap for West Grand, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
West Grand's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sage Wheatley, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wheatley has scored at least a third of West Grand's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Lechman, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks.
West Grand pushed their record up to 6-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for De Beque, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
West Grand will head out on the road to square off against North Park at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. North Park will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 285th, while West Grand is ranked 141st). As for De Beque, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Soroco at 5:00 p.m. Hopefully Soroco focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 last Saturday.
