The South Iredell Vikings will venture away from home to challenge the West Stanly Colts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. South Iredell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, South Iredell turned things around against West Cabarrus on Tuesday. They never let the Wolverines get on the board and left with a 20-0 win. Considering the Vikings have won four games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Addison Trego was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Trego was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Addi Myers was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Dilynn Norris, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one run.
South Iredell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, West Stanly put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Friday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over South Stanly.
Not much got past Madi Whitley, who gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep South Stanly off the board. With that strong performance, Whitley is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, Saylor Edwards and Laney Tucker did most of the damage at the plate: Edwards scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Tucker scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Edwards a new career-high in hits.
West Stanly's record is now 8-1. As for South Iredell, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
South Iredell's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. South Iredell has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for West Stanly, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will South Iredell continue to outrun the ball?
