Baseball Game Preview: Independence Patriots vs. Washington Rams

For the second straight game, Independence will face off against Washington. The Patriots will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Rams at 3:45 p.m. Independence has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Independence is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by an 18-12 margin over Washington on Tuesday. With that victory, the Patriots brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Rafael Sierra made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. Sierra was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-6. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miguel Ponce, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 5-for-6. He also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Bryan Orozco, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Independence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .660. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington only posted an OBP of .429.

Independence's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5-1. As for Washington, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Independence has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game.
