Softball Recap: Egyptian Comes Up Short

Egyptian extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 16 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-15 in the process. They came up short against the Shawnee Redskins, falling 14-1. If the Pharaohs were looking for revenge after losing 6-4 to the Redskins when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Egyptian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abrianna Woodson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. Woodson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played.

As for Shawnee, they moved to 6-13 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

On Shawnee's side, Lillie Griffin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Griffin a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, Shawnee got a massive performance out of Madalyn Schuster, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs Schuster has posted since back in April. Berkli Holtmann was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Egyptian is taking a road trip to challenge Meridian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Pharaohs are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on a three-game losing streak. Shawnee does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
