Softball Recap: David Crockett's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

After flying high against Elizabethton on Monday, David Crockett came back down to earth. The Pioneers fell just short of the Morristown-Hamblen West Trojans by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Lexi Hawkins was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Laney Britton, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI.

The loss snapped David Crockett's winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 17-4-1 record. As for Morristown-Hamblen West, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season.

David Crockett will head out on the road to take on Sullivan East at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.64 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Morristown-Hamblen West, they will welcome Morristown-Hamblen East at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hurricanes have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
