With a playoff win on the line, Lamar rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Cathedral Green Wave 40-6. Considering the Raiders have won five games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
A big part of Lamar's win came down to the chemistry between Sullivan Reed and his top target Walker Mims. Reed threw for 217 yards and four TDs on only 19 passes while Mims picked up 111 receiving yards and three scores. Reed's passing game has become a key predictor of Lamar's success: the team is 7-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Lamar's defense and their five sacks. Leading the way was Luke Brady with two.
Lamar's record is now 8-4. As for Cathedral, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Coming up, Lamar will challenge Brookhaven Academy at 7:00 p.m. on the 22nd. The Cougars will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last. Cathedral does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
