Basketball Recap: Eight Straight Home Victories for Pope John Paul II

There's no place like home for Pope John Paul II, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They came out on top against the Baylor Red Raiders by a score of 77-70 on Tuesday. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Red Raiders are ranked 100th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pope John Paul II was led to victory by Osby Cavin and Kamden Days. Cavin went 9 for 18 on his way to 29 points in addition to five assists and five steals, while Days dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 boards. Days' evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jarron Talley, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Pope John Paul II pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Baylor, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Pope John Paul II will take on Hardin Valley Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Pope John Paul II knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Hardin Valley Academy likes a good challenge. As for Baylor, they will welcome Signal Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
