The Christian Brothers Academy Brothers will face off against the Ballston Spa Scotties at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Christian Brothers Academy has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Christian Brothers Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Shaker on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bison by a score of 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Brothers have lost by just one run.
Meanwhile, Ballston Spa had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Plainsmen. Considering the Scotties have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ballston Spa got a great performance from Jameson Hotaling as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Hotaling has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on James Haughton, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Kai Graybeal was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Ballston Spa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shenendehowa only posted an OBP of .226.
Ballston Spa's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Christian Brothers Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Christian Brothers Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ballston Spa struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Christian Brothers Academy couldn't quite get it done against Ballston Spa in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 5-0. Will the Brothers have more luck at home instead of on the road?
