Wilson (West Lawn, Pa.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 14 points, drop to seven before the final whistle blew on a 24-17 victory over
Lancaster Catholic (Lancaster, Pa.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Matt Timochenko to
Bryce Pych in the first quarter, the Bulldogs led 17-7 at the half.
Wilson saw its 10-point halftime lead decrease to three entering the fourth.
With the win WHS extended its winning streak to seven games. Wilson defeated Hempfield 41-23 last week.
The West Lawn school had given up an average of 10.7 points prior to the contest. Lancaster Catholic's 17 points were right around their season average of 18.0 per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Lancaster Catholic, which notched a 42-21 victory over Warwick in its previous outing. The loss ended Lancaster Catholic's three-game winning streak.
In a Lancaster-Lebanon 1 game next week Wilson (7-0) takes on Manheim Township, and Lancaster Catholic (3-4) will go up against Hempfield also in a Lancaster-Lebanon 1 game.
