After both having extra time off, the Farmersville Farmers and the Pleasant Grove Hawks will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pleasant Grove took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Farmersville, who comes in off a win.
On Friday, Farmersville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Community. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Farmers.
Farmersville had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 26-28, 21-25, 25-13, 25-21, 15-13.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Pleasant Grove's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of North Lamar by a score of 3-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Pleasant Grove sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 19-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-11.
Farmersville's win bumped their record up to 29-12. As for Pleasant Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 25-12.
Farmersville was able to grind out a solid victory over Pleasant Grove when the teams last played back in September, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Farmers since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
