Gateway is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Skyview is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Olympians will welcome the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gateway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Gateway is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Adams City just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-1.
Gateway saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Heber Almeida, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Almeida is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Skyview never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Overland as they made off with a 14-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Marcus Archuleta made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Kaleb Rodriguez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adrian Sanchez, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.
Skyview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Skyview's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Gateway, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gateway hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Skyview struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gateway couldn't quite get it done against Skyview in their previous meeting on April 7th as they fell 6-3. Will the Olympians have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
