Overhills (Spring Lake, N.C.) saw its 18-point lead dwindle to 10, but still managed to hang on and beat
Westover (Fayetteville, N.C.) 25-15 on Saturday.
The Jaguars were up 12-7 at the half after taking the lead on a
Danny Karrs touchdown pass to
Chanler Renna in the second quarter.
Overhills expanded its lead to 11 points entering the fourth quarter. OHS's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown run by
Tyler Stevens.
The Spring Lake school's most effective player was Karrs. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns.
The Wolverines'
Henry Howard III played well. The senior quarterback ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.
The Jaguars went into the matchup giving up only 15.3 points per game. The 15 points that Westover ended with were right around its average of 14.3 coming into the game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Overhills came away with a 13-10 victory.
The loss comes after Westover defeated Union Pines 26-0 last week.
Westover (3-6) goes up against Grays Creek in a 3A Cape Fear Valley game matchup next week, while Overhills (4-4) locks horns with Western Harnett also in a 3A Cape Fear Valley game.
